The funeral prayer is a special service for the deceased. The deceased will be placed in front of the congregation, and Muslims will line up behind him or her.
“O Allah! You are his/her Sustainer, You are his/her Creator, You provided him/her with sustenance, guided him/her to Islam, caused him/her to die, and You best know his/her secret and public life. We plead to You on his/her behalf to forgive his/her sins.”
“O Allah! [the name of the deceased person], son/daughter of [the name of his/her parents], is under Your protection and mercy, so protect him/her from the trial of the grave and the torture of Hell Fire. You are the guardian of the truthful and the faithful.
O Allah! Forgive him/her and be merciful to him/her, as You are the Most Merciful, Most Forgiving.”
“O Allah! Forgive him/her, have mercy on him/her, pardon him/her, heal him/her, and be generous to him/her. Cause his/her entrance to be wide and comfortable, wash him/her with the most pure and clean water, and purify him/her from sins as a white garment is washed clean of dirt. Give him/her in exchange a home better than his/her home (on earth) and a dwelling better than his/her dwelling, and protect him/her from the trial of the grave and the torture of Hell Fire.”
“O Allah! Forgive our living, our dead, our young, our old, our males and our females, those of us who are present, and those who are absent.
O Allah! Whomsoever among us You keep to live, make him to live in Islam, and whomsoever You cause to die, let him die in faith.
O Allah! Do not deprive us of our reward for (supplicating for) him/her, and cause us not to go astray after him/her.”
“O Allah, make him/her for his parents a forerunner, a treasure and a warning, an honor, an intercessor, and cause him/her to make their scales of good deeds
heavier (on the Day of Judgment).
O Allah! Grant them patience, and O Allah! Do not put them to trial after him/her, nor deprive them of his/her reward.”
Because of the universality of Islam, all services are done modestly and in a simple manner.
At this point, the service is over.
