Islam is the truth because of the unique and verifiable claim of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that he received divine revelation from the angel Gabriel, a claim supported by his consistent, truthful character and life of hardship without any motive to lie. The Quran challenges skeptics to produce anything like its chapters or find contradictions within it—challenges unmet for over a thousand years—pointing to its divine origin. Other explanations, such as delusion or deception, do not align with his coherent message or the Quran’s content. Therefore, the Quran’s unmatched linguistic miracle and Prophet Muhammad’s integrity affirm that Islam is the true faith.
Why is Islam the truth? If Islam is true, then by default, every other religion is false. Similarly, if Christianity is true, then all other religions are false. The reality is that no two religions can be fully reconciled. This leads us to an essential question: Which religion is the true one? Why, among all the religions, is Islam the truth?
The answer rests on the claim made by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He declared that he received revelation from an angel while in a cave. According to his account, he saw the angel Gabriel, who delivered to him the first revelations of the Qur’an. Regarding this claim, there are only four possibilities: he either lied, was deluded, was deceived, or was telling the truth.
When does a person lie? Usually, when there is something to gain. But look at the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) after his claim of prophethood. He called on his people to abandon idolatry and to worship the God of Abraham. He was persecuted, lived in poverty, and was eventually exiled from his homeland. Despite all this hardship, he was known as an honest and trustworthy man even before his prophethood claim. His people, who grew up alongside him, never accused him of lying, understanding that such an accusation would not be credible. His life up to that point showed no signs of deceit—he was called Al-Amin, “the Trustworthy.” Even his enemies entrusted him with their goods when traveling. Therefore, the possibility that he lied can be dismissed.
Could he have been deluded—seeing visions and hearing voices that were not real? This is often a symptom of schizophrenia, a condition marked by auditory and visual hallucinations and social withdrawal. However, those suffering from untreated schizophrenia generally deteriorate over time and do not maintain a coherent, consistent message. The Prophet’s message was delivered clearly and consistently over 23 years without contradiction or confusion. This rules out the possibility of delusion.
Could he have been deceived? Some claim the devil inspired him. But this is the weakest argument. Why would Satan lead pagan Arabs to abandon idol worship and serve the God of Abraham? The Qur’an itself condemns the devil repeatedly and promotes values like charity, monotheism, and righteousness—actions entirely contrary to Satan’s nature. This explanation simply does not hold.
By elimination, the only remaining option is that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was indeed speaking the truth.
How can one verify that the Qur’an we have today is a genuine revelation from God? The Qur’an itself offers two tests: one directed at Arabs and the other for non-Arabic speakers.
For the Arabs, Allah challenges them in the Qur’an: if this message is not from Allah, then produce a single chapter like it. To this day, no one has succeeded in doing so.
For non-Arabic speakers, the test is to find any contradiction or error in the Qur’an. Humans make mistakes, and if this were a human work, errors would be expected. Yet, over more than a thousand years, no one has identified a single inconsistency or error in the text.
This unparalleled linguistic and textual perfection is why I believe the Qur’an can only be from the Creator. By extension, Islam must be the truth.
