Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds (five compulsory prayers, deeds of Allah's obedience, good and nice talk, remembrance of Allah with glorification, praises and thanks, etc.), that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope.
[Al-kahf - 46] (Quran: Ch. 18 - Verse 46)

Islamic Society of Stillwater inauguration

It was great to invite Oklahoma State University president at the time Mr. Burns Hargis to our inauguration. Both Mr. Hargis and the first OSU lady Ann Hargis attended the celebration among other OSU dignitaries. Speeches were delivered that expressed happiness and joy with the new facility and hopes of more collaboration in the future.
Since the commission of our new facility, the Islamic Society of Stillwater receives OSU students classes to tour the building, help in their reports and homework, and answer any question an OSU student may have about Islam, Muslims, Muslims in the US, challenges of being a Muslim in the US and many other subjects. We also receive students from many other educational and religious institutions.
High school students who may need to help to write an assignment or a report also find all the help they ask for from the ISS members.
Please contact us in case you have questions or concerns.

In The Media

The Islamic Society of Stillwater enjoys good relations with media out lets. The ISS director Dr. Ahmed Abo Basha (Dr. Basha) has published numerous articles in the Stillwater News Press (Stillwater News Press) to explain Islam and to extend invitations to the community at different occasions.

Other members do keep good relations with the media. Dr. Hatim Hegab wrote in the O'Colly (O'colly), the Oklahoma State University Newspaper, where he expressed some of his "personal" views on different events. Also He writes in the Stillwater News Press. He publishes his personal opinions in both Arabic and English. (Pictures of articles below are representative of members' media activities. The ISS does not, and may not, support any political views, parties or public figures.)

ISS Activities

Activities are very important to keep our community active and vibrant. The Islamic Society of Stillwater (ISS) boasts a variety of activities that take place within its walls and outside. Our community consists mainly from students. Almost 75% of our members are students who study at Oklahoma State University. As a result, social activities help make our members feel at home and help alleviate the homesickness felt by some.
Our list of activities contains, but not limited to, religious, social, sports, children, teenagers, and cultural activities.
The ISS has two directors for both social and sports & Youths activities. All activities are prepared for, managed and run by the concerned parties after a coordination with the director (for time management purposes.)

Religious Activities and Celebrations

The month of Ramadan is the month of gathering and celebration. It enjoys the most activities during the year. During this blessed month members gather to break their fasting on dates and milk following the Sunnah for the Prophet (May Allah perform prayers on him) and then perform the Salat (Salah). Taraweeh prayers are also held everyday during the blessed days of the month or Ramadan. Our members enjoy being with us to help them feel being with family.
Other religious celebrations such as Eid prayers and celebrations are also conducted in the ISS. Our members wear their national attires of clothes and come to the ISS to celebrate the Eid. Many non-Muslim friends do come visit us during these days to enjoy the atmosphere of a Muslim celebration.

As usual, we ask our members to follow Islamic manners and keep the place as clean as it is to keep our running costs as low as possible.

Sports Activities

Sports competitions are usually held in the weekends where our young members compete in some games. They enjoy playing volleyball, soccer in the grass area and basketball and cricket in the multipurpose area.
These activities are coordinated by the players/teams themselves and enjoy good participation from everyone especially those who do not know how to play!

Social Activities

Social gatherings are essential in our society. Members usually socialize daily after Isha prayers, yet Friday and Saturday nights are the nights that witness a good participation in the social gatherings. Pizza and refreshments are usually offered in such gatherings. Kids and teens meet in their areas where they can enjoy whatever they decide for themselves under good supervision of their families.
Our children have special programs that include school holidays celebrations and movie nights!
