Why The Sahaba (Companions)?
The companions of Prophet Muhammad (Sahaba in Arabic) are those who met Prophet Muhammad and believed in his message. Their number is believed to around 120 thousands.
Why This Series?
The significance of the Sahaba (companions) of Prophet Muhammad lies in their pivotal role as conveyors of the Messenger of Allah’s message to the world. Beyond this, they served as educators, imparting knowledge of his Sunnah (the habits and practices of the Messenger of Allah) to subsequent generations. Most notably, they meticulously transmitted the Hadeeth (sayings of the Messenger of Allah), thereby establishing it as the second source of legal authority in Islam.
Their contribution extended to the defense of Islam’s message and the propagation of the Messenger’s call, with many sacrificing their money, and their lives for the cause. Numerous Sahaba were the reason of the revelation of some Quranic verses, either by posing questions or seeking solutions to various issues. One such instance involved a woman who posed a question to the Messenger of Allah, leading to the revelation of the following verse:
قَدْ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ قَوْلَ الَّتِي تُجَادِلُكَ فِي زَوْجِهَا وَتَشْتَكِي إِلَى اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ يَسْمَعُ تَحَاوُرَكُمَا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ بَصِيرٌ
[ المجادلة: 1]
Certainly has Allah heard the speech of the one (the woman) who argues with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah. And Allah hears your dialogue; indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing. [Quran 58: 1]
This is why it is important to know about their lives.
In this series I am to talk about some of the companions of the Prophet. I will only take a snapshot of his life and focus on it. I will explain the importance of this situation or incident and how did it help other Muslims understand Islam better.
The series is in English. And I plan, after I am done with the Sirah in English to give this series in Arabic.
